The Avatar Mistakes, Part 2: More Like Humans

The Avatar Mistakes, Part 2: More Like HumansIn my previous post I wrote about one of the top action movies of 2009–Avatar, and mentioned that it contains many “biological” mistakes.

Here is the list of the mistakes I found:

  • All the animals on Pandora have two pairs of forelimbs and two legs (4+2=6) and the Na’vi have only two arms and two legs, just like humans. Why do the animals on Pandora have extra limbs and why don’t the Na’vi have them?
  • All the animals on Pandora have two big eyes and many little ones (we can easily see this when the animals’ faces are shown close up), but the Na’vi have two eyes only. Just like humans, again. Why?
  • All animals have two “braids” with those neutral extensions, but the Na’vi have only one braid. Why are they different again? And besides, if only one braid is enough for making that neutral contact, why do the animals have an extra one?
  • No animal on Pandora has fur, but the Na’vi have hair. Again, like humans.
  • The animals on Pandora have something like noses and some other respiratory organs on their bodies, while the Na’vi have only noses…

So, it turns out that the Na’vi have more in common with humans and not with the other creatures of their planet. What can this mean? Either they aren’t the natives of the planet and came there a while ago, like humans did in the film (but this version isn’t logical because the Na’vi have the neutral braids and don’t have any technologies to fly to other planets), or… the filmmakers simply wanted to create more fantastic and alien animals on the new planet, and the Na’vi should be more like humans to correspond to the modern ideas of beauty…

Despite of what I wrote in these posts, Avatar is a very good film that is worth seeing. So if you haven’t seen it yet, hurry The Avatar Mistakes, Part 2: More Like Humans

Oh, and one more thing. All my friends were delighted by those flying islands of Pandora and said that the idea was very original. Am I the only one who remembered The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind‘s flying island?
