The Avatar Mistakes: Why, Why, Why?

The Avatar Mistakes: Why, Why, Why?When watching new action movies, we see an intriguing plot, beautiful graphics (if any), interesting main characters, and we usually miss the huge number of mistakes and lack of logic in those films.

A bright example is one of the top action movies of 2009, which is being watched and discussed even now–Avatar.

James Cameron’s Avatar is one of the most famous Academy Award winning movies (it was nominated for nine Academy Awards and won three–for its outstanding cinematography, visual effects and art direction) of the last few years with an official budget of $237 million.

They say it took Cameron ten years to make the film, and he consulted with specialists in many fields to make it more realistic. Yet when watching it many “Whys” arise… And the film doesn’t give answers to any of them.

Most of the “Whys” are about the fauna of the planet Pandora where the action takes place. As far as I understand, the Na’vi people are (should be, logically) part of the ecosystem of the planet. It means they went through the same evolution as all the other creatures on the planet, thus the “construction” of their bodies should be the same. But…

A friend of mine (a biologist) drew my attention to the fact that the Na’vi are really different from all the other creatures on Pandora, as if they evolved and developed on a different planet. I didn’t understand this idea and said that humans don’t have much in common with all the other creatures on the Earth, too.

But my friend laughed and said that all the mammals (including humans) on the Earth have two eyes to see, a nose to breathe, a mouth to eat and to make noises, four limbs and similar inner organs with similar functions. And this fact pointed out that all those creatures developed on the same planet, under the same conditions.

Then I watched the Avatar movie once again and understood that my friend was right and there was really a lack of logic in the creatures of Pandora…

Do you want to know what kind of mistakes I am talking about? My next post will reveal them.
