Surfwise

Surfwise Surfwise is directed by filmmaker Doug Pray and produced by Graydon Carter. The movie combines three different genres; Documentary, Biopic and Sports and is set for release on 9 May.

Detailing the life of health guru who wants to realize his dream of living the nomadic life of a surfer, Dr. Paskowitz takes his wife and nine children along with him. The Paskowitz family win one surfing competition after another and survive with little to no income. Paskowitz educates his kids at home, denying the benefits of school and financial security. As Paskowitz’s kids grow up, they leave one after another, and attempt to survive with no education, skills and social awareness.

Yahoo! Movies reports that the Paskowitz Family manages to prove that America may be running out of frontiers, but it hasn’t run out of frontiersmen.

Like many American outsider-adventurers, Dorian “Doc” Paskowitz set out to realize a utopian dream. Abandoning a successful medical practice, he sought self-fulfillment by taking up the nomadic life of a surfer. Together, they lived a life that would be unfathomable to most, but enviable to anyone who ever relinquished their dreams to a straight job.

According to the New York Times, Pray tells the Paskowitz’s strange, bewildering and ultimately heartbreaking story via incisive interviews with family members combined with archival footage.

In time, as one child after another grew up, left the clan and attempted to survive, they found it difficult, if not impossible to function in the day-to-day world without the education, social skills and monetary know-how that so many young adults take for granted.

Before the movie is released, here is its official trailer. It is full of interesting interviews and scenes.
