Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas, Christina Ricci and Robert Pattinson will star in an upcoming film called “Bel Ami.”
Looks promising, doesn’t it? Once again a whole group of megastars is appearing in one and the same movie, which is sure to be a great success. Moreover, it is based on Guy De Maupassant’s “Story of a Rogue,” which itself is a literary phenomenon.
Directed by Declan Donnellan and written by Rachel Bennette, “Bel Ami” tells us a story about disguised human vanity, glory and lack of compassion. The film is a story about a man who aspires one day to step into the world of glamor, wealth and glitter to turn his cravings into a reality.
The world’s most famous, handsome and merciful vampire Robert Pattinson will surprise his fans with a completely different role: a poor young journalist who becomes a successful and wealthy man. Of great interest is the way George Duroy (Pattinson) smooths his career path and tries to reach the top of the social ladder. He uses the simplest methods ever possible: good looks as a key to success. With that talent he seduces the one of the most beautiful and influential women of Paris.
Madeline (Thurman), the wife of Duroy’s friend Charley, is one of the women that Duroy used to better his career and to penetrate the upper class. Madeline later becomes Duroy’s mentor both personally and professionally. It is also interesting to observe how George Duroy betrays his old friend Charley who helped him greatly by offering him a job in his own newspaper despite his complete lack of experience. However, Madeline, who later becomes George’s wife, is not the only woman that George seduces.
With the march of events, in the end George is left with what he started, with no money and in complete solitude. Perhaps one of the reasons for his collapse was that he didn’t follow Wilson Mizner’s simple rule of the will of fortune: “Be kind to people on your way up because you can meet them on your way down.”
If the film synopsis interests you, and if you are eager to see your favorite actors in totally new roles, don’t miss this biographic drama, the release date of which is scheduled for 2011. “Bel Ami” is sure to be among the best drama movies of the coming years.
