Forever Strong: Coming This Fall

Forever StrongIf you’re looking for an upcoming movie which combines drama with sport then Forever Strong will be right up your street. The movie which should hit theaters in the Fall is based on a true-story which sets Forever Strong apart from other similar films.

It’s directed by Ryan Little and stars Gary Cole, Sean Faris, Neal McDonough, Sean Astin and Arielle Kebbel. This drama/sport film revolves around a rugby team where the talented but troubled high school rugby player Rick Penning (Sean Faris) loses his position as star of an Arizona rugby union team.

He is sent to play as a member of the Salt Lake’s famous Highland High School rugby team and the day comes when he has to play against his old team coached by his father. According to the Scott and Nancy blog Forever Strong is not a standard sports movie.

It had good values without being cheezy and was a gripping story about a young teens transformation through the influence of both a couch and his rugby team from Highland, UT. It’s based on a true story and it’s not like your average sport’s movie where by the end, you’re more interested in the team winning than about the individual characters.

Another site, BYU reports about the movie as well.

Forever Strong struggles when it tries to tell the story rather than show the story. The plot builds and builds, and then at crucial moments the flow in the narrative is unnaturally interrupted to give a message or moral. The members of the Highland Rugby Club show their honor, virtue, and integrity by their actions; it is not necessary for them to declare their code of honor to the audience again and again.
