Distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, directed by Nick Cassavetes and produced by Stephen Furst, the 109-minute film “My Sister’s Keeper” is sure to bring success. This $30-million bugdet drama movie is among the latest movie DVD releases that was launched in the US and the UK on June 26, 2009. It was written by Jodi Picoult.
Famous actors Cameron Diaz and Jason Patric star as Sara Fitzgerald and Brian Fitzgerald. Abigail Breslin is Anna Fitzgerald, Sofia Vassilieva is as Kate Fitzgerald and Evan Ellingson stars as Jesse Fitzgerald.
“My Sister’s Keeper” is a story about the Fitzgerald’s happy home, which in an instant all falls apart with the devastating news about their elder daughter Kate’s illness, leukemia. After that Kate’s parents decide to conceive another child who will genetically match her sister and therefore save her life. Until 13 years Anna thought it was natural to act as her sister’s guardian angel by providing her with blood and bone marrow when needed. But at 13 the already grown-up Anna starts rebelling against her parents, hires a lawyer and begins fighting for the right to making her own decisions.
Anna is an extraordinary child. However, what makes her differ from other children is that she is genetically engineered, a planned machine whose main goal was already set long before her birthday. She came to this world with a definite mission: salvation of her elder sister Kate.
“My Sister’s Keeper” is a fantastic story of life and death, struggle and survival, victory and devastation. It is a movie about a family which cherishes small miracles and believes in big ones. It is a story that perfectly depicts the life of a family which one day succumbs to despair, the next day fills with hope again and acts like a real warrior. It is a story about two sisters, one of them so helpless and so close to death, the other a genetically engineered machine who struggles for her own self, for being the master of her own body, for being able to make her own decisions. It is a story that is written in a universal language, written convincingly about human emotions.
Cameron Diaz with her brilliant portrayal in the role of the mother of three kids makes the movie more dramatic. The end of the film is most unexpected.
“My Sister’s Keeper” is a great movie that is surely worth watching. If you are a lover of drama prepare yourself for the tide of emotions and breathtaking moments that this film presents you with.
