Diary Of The Dead: DVD On May 20th

Diary of the DeadDiary of the Dead is a zombie-horror movie directed by George A. Romero. It’s the fifth movie in the Romero’s Dead series and stars Shawn Roberts, Joshua Close, Michelle Morgan, Joe Dinicol and others. Considering that filming managed to get an above average horror film for only $2 million then it’s not surprising why critics are not too strong in their judgement.

The story revolves around a group of film students who are filming a horror movie, but who of course then come face to face with some real life zombies. When that happens everyone forgets about filming and the number one task is to survive. According to Rotten Tomatoes, Creed (Joshua Close) decides not to put the camera down and instead continues to record the real life horror.

Film obsessive Creed doesn’t put his camera down for long, and he’s soon heading out on the road with his friends in a quest to document the real-life carnage as it unfolds. The film is shot entirely from the point of view of Creed and his camera-wielding friends, and in a neat nod to contemporary technology, Romero’s feature is full of references to websites such as MySpace and YouTube. This interesting sidestep from Romero’s long-running zombie saga is a 21st century take on the initial zombie outburst that occurred in the director’s 1968 classic NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD.

Here is what BLOODY DISGUSTING reports about movie.

DIARY OF THE DEAD might be flawed but the fact that it’s an independent film gives many of the problems a free ride. In the end this is Romero at his finest, a special little film that all fans will be pleasantly surprised with. The only thing better than a new Romero zombie film is seeing it with 1,200 screaming fans.

Enjoy the trailer.
