Scream 4 (a.k.a., SCRE4M) is scheduled to hit theaters on April 15, 2011. The film will be produced by Dimension Films.
Lovers of old horror movies will probably remember the famous “Scream” series even though ten years have already passed since the third part was released. The project (directed by Wes Craven and written by Kevin Williamson and Ehren Kruger) was inspired by a series of Halloween films and the Gainesville Ripper murders of 1990.
Originally, it was decided to make the film a trilogy, but now filmmakers feel the need of some “fresh blood” on the screen. So this is going to be a new look on horror films, a kind of reboot of the series and the first of a new trilogy.
In the first three films the incidents revolve around the heroine of the series, Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell). A psychopathic serial killer in a Halloween mask is constantly attempting to kill her and the people around her. Each of the three films starts with a cruel and bloody murder of a couple. These things we already know pretty well. What is really intriguing is the forth part.
But Wes Craven and producer Bob Weinstein don’t talk much about it as if trying to keep everything secret. The explanation is quite simple: for the first three films they placed the plot on the Internet in advance, but later for some reasons they had to change some parts of it, which then caused a lot of fuss among the audience. We know that the shooting location for Scream 4 is Ann Arbor, Michigan.
However, there are some key facts they don’t hide. Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), Sheriff Dewey Riley (David Arquette) and Gale Weathers Riley (Courteney Cox) are again going to be the central characters, and new kids are also going to join them.
The film will probably open with another gory murder of a couple, then everything will start anew. Though teenagers in the first movies are now a generation older and Sid is now leading a peaceful life (she has even written a book), “Scream” will not be a scream without the well-known Ghostface. But the characters, as I said, are prepared enough to face all the difficulties with dignity.
The new “Scream” installment is really promising–fans of new horror movies can look forward to another gory murder movie with lots of unpredictable events and, surprisingly, good humor.
