Everybody thinks about seeing Broadway plays when they visit New York City. Among the ones vying for Tony Awards for the 2011-2012 season are Master Class, Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark, Follies, The Mountain Top, and Relatively Speaking. But what about seeing Oscar winners in New York movie theaters while you’re in the city? After all, isn’t it the city for spectacular entertainment? How much fun would it be to watch Oscar Winners, “Black Swan,” “The Fighter,” or “Inception,” on the big screens in any of the many multiplexes in New York movie theaters?
In this day and age, many of our cinemas are modern with no remnants of the splendor of yesterday’s huge velvet drapes that opened to reveal the screen like they do in the New York movie theaters. It almost makes you think back to what it must have been like to see the opening of “Gone With The Wind” back in the 1930’s with all of the glamour of the red carpet and the paparazzi outside of the theatre. Plus, there’s just something about a New York City audience enjoying and reacting to a movie that’s different from anything you’d experience in the Midwest.
But of course, make some to see some live performances while you’re in the Big Apple. While most of the major U.S. cities have some degree of arts and culture, it’s nothing compared to what you’re going to see in New York City.
