I bet the most common movie title you hear these days is Slumdog Millionaire. I only watched it a few days ago when I finally had some spare time, and, to tell you the truth, I had no idea that it was the film to win best movie awards in 2009. I kept on telling everyone about this new movie I “discovered” until one of my friends calmed me down by joking that I was from the Moon.
Indeed, I did some research and I was so happy to find out that my movie taste coincided with that of movie critics. At the Academy Awards it won eight nominations out of ten, including best movie. Other won nominations were for Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Original Score and Best Original Song.
But it didn’t only win the Oscar. Slumdog Millionaire also got four Golden Globe Awards, seven BAFTA Awards, and five Critics’ Choice Awards.
You know, from the part of those having seen the movie, many controversial acclaims are heard: some say it wasn’t so good as to get Oscar for the Best Picture, while others say it deserved all the awards. As for me, although I’m not a film expert, just a movie buff presenting real life with its interesting and unexpected outcomes, this movie is among those that will last for decades and never bore the audience.
If you haven’t watched the movie yet, it’s about an uneducated Indian boy winning at Who Wants To Become A Millionaire. And he finds the answer to every question asked of him in his bitter life experiences. To keep it interesting I won’t say more, as it’s really worth seeing, not because of the numerous best movie awards it won but for its deeply moving scenes.
Another thing that pleased me a lot is the fresh, new cast. I welcome the casting choice of the director, Danny Boyle. That made the movie more impressive and unique.
And I’m very interested to hear your comments once you see it!
