Smart People

Smart PeopleDirected by Noam Murro, Smart People movie stars Dennis Quaid, Sarah Jessica Parker, Ellen Page and Thomas Haden Church. The movie is a combination of three different genres; Comedy, Drama and Romance and is set to release next month.

Smart People details the life of professor Lawrence Wetherhold (Dennis Quaid), who is extremely smart in solving scientific problems but not common issues related with love and family. His teenage daughter Vanessa (Ellen Page) is a very successful student who follows the steps of her father in life. However, only Wetherhold’s adopted brother Chuck (Thomas Haden Church) is the right person to show him how to reconsider his life.

RopeofSillicon.com reports that Wethehrhold’s encounters with his former student Janet (Sarah Jessica Parker) return him to life.

A widower who can’t seem to find passion in anything anymore, not even the Victorian Literature in which he’s an expert, it seems Lawrence is sleepwalking through a very stunted middle age. When his brother shows up unexpectedly for an extended stay at just about the same time as he accidentally encounters his former student Janet (Sarah Jessica Parker), the circumstances cause him to stir from his deep, deep freeze, with often comical, sometimes heartbreaking, consequences for himself and everyone around him.

According to The New York Times, even though Wetherland has always relied on his wit and intelligence to solve his problems, it requires a little bit more than intellectual thinking to move on in this life.

Though Lawrence always relied on his intelligence to get him out of life’s little jams in the past, it’s going to take quite a bit more than intellectual thinking to move past this sticky stage in his suddenly chaotic life. David Denman and Christine Lahti co-star in this romantic comedy drama, which serves as the screenwriting debut of Goats and Modern Ranch Living author Mark Jude Poirier.

Until the movie is released next month, enjoy its official trailer along with a brief clip.
