True Story Based Movies: 50 First Dates, Part 2

True Story Based Movies: 50 First Dates, Part 2The plot of the romantic comedy movie “50 first dates” can seem to be too fantastic to be true. A woman with a fictitious type of amnesia, a man that stays beside her despite of everything and every day gets acquainted with her anew…

But there is a real couple that had the same story as Lucy and Henry from “50 first dates.” As I said in the first part of this post, Michelle Philpots gave an interview to TODAY not long ago and revealed her life, which possibly could be the inspiration for the filmmakers of the romantic comedy movie we discussed above.

Michelle Philpots doesn’t remember anything about the last 16 years of her life. Just like Lucy, she wakes up every morning, being sure that it’s still the year 1994.

After two terrible car accidents, where she had serious brain injuries, Michelle Philpots can remember almost everything that took place before 1994, while nothing after that year remains in her memory…

Michelle is just as lucky as Lucy from “50 first dates” — she has a loving husband beside her, who patiently explains her every morning that they are married. Fortunately, she can remember him, because they first met in 1985 — before the two car crashes.

But Michelle doesn’t remember that they are married, because their wedding was in 1997, so Ian has to show her their wedding photos every day. Just like Henry in the romantic comedy movie “50 first dates” did.

Many people think all those romantic comedy movies are just fairy tales that are too good to be true. But it can turn out that the couple living next to you had just the same story as the one you saw in a film. And maybe they even were the ones that inspired the filmmakers!
