Aronofsky And Portman In ‘Black Swan’
Are you fond of “Requiem for a Dream,” “The Wrestler” and the “The Fountain?” I’m sure you are, so get ready. The director Darren Aronofsky is coming out with another anticipated masterpiece, “Black Swan.”
The script has been waiting for its turn to come since 2007, and in autumn, 2010 the film will finally be released. Aronofsky has combined such talents as Natalie Portman, Vincent Cassel, Mila Kunis, Winona Ryder and others.
“Black Swan” is a thriller plus drama with the elements of fantasy, as it involves some mystic and doubtful visions of the main character. The story focuses on a trouper ballerina Nina, played by Natalie Portman, who has a serious performance coming up. She is replacing her retiring friend Beth (Winona Ryder) to run the protagonist role in the famous ballet “Swan Lake.”
According to the scenario she has to play both the White Swan and the Black Swan. Nina’s gentle character allows her to play the White Swan, but she has hard time to find the opposite side of herself to genuinely represent the part of the Black Swan.
This is when she sees another successful ballerina in their troupe, Lily, played by Mila Kunis. Nina is bewildered because Lily looks very much like her in appearance, but she is not exactly the same. The jealousy and competition bring to the rivalry between the two girls. In one of the scenes of the film there is even fierce sexual intercourse between Nina and Lily (Portman and Kunis).
However, it is still uncertain whether Lily is real or she’s just Nina’s vision of her own self. So, you will have to watch the movie till the end and find out the truth together with Nina.
The music of the film is written by Clint Mansell, one of the greatest film composers, who has already composed brilliant music for Aronofsky’s “Requiem for a Dream” and “The Fountain.”
The whole cast, especially Natalie, are very excited about the movie, as it has deep psychological underpinnings that will help them show just how good their acting skills are.
Aronofsky is one of the most talented directors of our generation, and his films are always striking viewer’s attention, without leaving them indifferent. So, I am sure “Black Swan” will be one of the best suspense thriller movies of the decade.
