Stealing ideas is actually a common thing nowadays. Nothing extraordinary. But have you ever been able to steal a thought? It’s the special ability of Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) in the new film “Inception,” which is definitely going to be one of the best thriller action movies of the year. The film will hit theaters today.
Dom Cobb is a professional thief, but what he steals is quite unusual. Cobb’s an “extractor”–a person who enters your mind when you sleep and when your mind is extremely vulnerable to steal your thoughts… He learns about the secrets of tycoons, and, of course, there are many people who can be interested in what he discovers.
Because of these rare abilities Cobb has lots of problems. He even loses his beloved wife.
One day Cobb is given a new task–a quite unusual task, even for him. It is just the opposite of what he has been doing all these years: now he has to plant an idea instead of stealing it.
He plans all the details of the new job carefully, but there are enemies that seem to predict every move he makes. If he succeeds, it will be the crime of all ages.
The film is written and produced by Christopher Nolan, who directed the highly acclaimed Batman films including “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Night.” The feature film that first put him on the map was the 2000 release, “Memento.” It took him about 10 years to prepare the script for “Inception.”
During his interview with collider.com Nolan mentioned:
…I realized that I wasn’t ready to develop it. I wasn’t ready to write it at that point. And I think that over the last 10 years it stayed in my head as a concept and as a really exciting sort of narrative structural idea and this sort of heist movie thing that’s going on with the film. But I think I didn’t know how emotionally to engage with it… I think I finally found that emotional connection with the material that I depend on as a filmmaker, because what I’ve realized about myself over the years is if I don’t engage with something on that level, I’ll never sustain my interest in it for the 2 years it takes to make it.
The theory of some people sharing the same dreams and thoughts was the source of inspiration for Nolan. He tried to develop this idea and thought that maybe a man can steal information from somebody’s head.
The film will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. DiCaprio is in the leading role, with Josef Gordon-Levitt (Arthur), Ellen Page (Ariadne) and Marion Cotillard (Cobb’s wife).
