Sweeney Todd
Directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp in the title role, Sweeney Tedd has already won an Oscar along with 14 nominations in other movie festivals. Detailing the life of Benjamin Barker, Sweeney Todd is a a story of a man unjustly imprisoned and who has vowed to take revenge. Todd’s wife and daughter have been killed, Todd is obsessed with with feelings of revenge, pain and endless sufferings. As most people know already, despite the macabre story line, the film is based on the musical of the same name.
Farmington Library Teen blog reports that “after five years of being banished by a corrupt judge,Todd comes back to have revenge on him in addition to most of English society.”
Depp does remarkably well as the role of one of the more challenging baritone parts in musical theater. Helena Bohnam Carter plays a convincing role as the pie maker using Depp’s victems corpses as meat for the meat pies.
According to alt+g, despite the gore and violent scenes in the movie, Sweeney Todd still has a dose of romance, drama and mystery.
Viewers get their fair share of scares in scenes such as Todd repeatedly bashing his first victim’s head with a kettle until he dies. Even more gruesome is the plan Todd and Lovett set up to avoid buying expensive meat for the pie shop-instead of buying meat, they kill off victims to make the pies.
