Igor - September 19, 2008

IGORIt seems that this year is going to be full of view-worthy animated movies. On September 19th, 2008, IGOR will join his animated counterparts in theaters, hoping to get a cut of that box office gold . Directed by Tony Leondis, the film features the voices of John Cusack, Steve Buscemi, John Cleese, Eddie Izzard, Molly Shannon and Paul Vogt.

IGOR, as his name suggests, is a hunch-backed lab assistant to an evil scientist, who has lofty dreams of mad scientist stardom himself. His plan of action? - creating an invention that will take first place at the annual Evil Science Fair. It’s the classic story of The Little Engine That Could, a bit twisted of course. So? Can Igor (voiced by Cusack) hit the box office jackpot? Well, with it’s Tim Burton-esque feel, it is possible it could gain a big cult following, but the track record of the distribution company, The Weinstein Company, might suggest otherwise. As SlashFilm reports:

TWC doesn’t have a good history on the animation side, and this appears to be the production company Exodus Film Group’s first animated production. Their usual television work includes EcoOdyssey and Around Along: The Brad Van Liew Story. Yeah, it doesn’t sound promising.

I for one am rooting for the underdog and hoping IGOR pulls through. Check out the trailer.
